Can a Career Coach Help Your Job Search?
If you are reading this, you might be at a point in your career where you could use a little support.
Welcome :) Needing a little advice and support in our career from time to time is totally normal.
Most careers are not straightforward. They zigzag and twist, and turn, and can lead us in unexpected directions. Sometimes we are excited about it, but often, we aren’t sure what to do when we hit those crossroads.
These are the moments when it helps to have a career coach in your corner.
What is a Career Coach?
A Career Coach is a partner, a co-strategist, and a bit of a motivator. Career Coaches help you look beyond your immediate situation, offer additional perspective, and can help you set and move closer to your career goals. Coaches lead conversations focused on you and your work, ask open-ended questions, and can help you set a longer-term direction.
What to Expect in a Career Coaching Session:
Career coaching is totally focused on you - we’ll explore your current situation, your career aspirations, your goals, and values. It will feel conversational, introspective, and reflective.
Each coaching session is different - what you need in one session may be different than what you need in the next.
There is no right or wrong in the conversation. Your coach will help you stay on track towards your goals, but you get to decide what the goals are or where the conversation goes.
It’s collaborative - it’s a back and forth, and you decide what steps best for you.
You’ll leave with actionable steps to work towards, questions to mull over or clarity on your situation.
The goal of a coaching session is to help you gain clarity and move forward in your situation. Working with someone who knows the job market, understands different industries, and helps you connect the dots between who you are and where you want to go is key to meeting your goals.
How to Get the Most Out of Your Career Coaching Session:
Know what you want to work throughYour coach can’t help you if you aren’t clear where you want help.
Share any relevant career info to set the stage and give your coach some background (LinkedIn profile, resumes, past employers, dream employers etc- it all helps!)
Be honest and open to new ideas - change doesn’t happen without these things in place.
Whether you’re changing jobs, switching careers, moving up the ladder, stepping back, or looking for support through a challenging situation, a career coaching session can feel reinvigorating and offer the support that you need.
